Making BCS Bowl = Losing $

- Interesting article on this site about Stanford and VT actually losing money for making a BCS bowl this past year, UConn too. Kinda crazy when you think about it...more things starting to break in college FB than are being fixed.

But are the schools really losing money? The BCS paid out the ACC $21.2 million this year. That's $1.77 million per school, which should have covered most if not all of the losses VT spent on the bowl. The Big East also got $21.2M from the BCS, which is almost $2.5M per school in that conference.

And what is the solution? Any neutral site game you have is likely to incur losses for most programs. So it's not like you can take the stance that "bowls are bad" if the solution is simply to replace them with playoff games in the exact same settings.

Nah, you'd think but you've gotta go see the numbers. Actually those are the amounts both had to eat as a loss.

I know what you mean about the lack of a good solution, thats why I stated that it seems more things are breaking than fixing themselves. Add to that the slimey situations at OSU, AU, UNC, USC. Then the BCS vs playoffs. Trending downward if you ask me...

Maybe, but from what I read it seems like the schools are indeed taking a net loss when it comes to the bowl itself. But it's hard for me to imagine when you factor in EVERYTHING, any of these major programs are ending up in the red when it comes to their football program.

Nah its not all of them, much seems to depend on how many tickets the schools have to eat for the fanbase not traveling well. IE. UConn in Florida. But what really creates the crunch is the conference's BCS team has to share all its revenue w/ the conference, but not the ticket losses, etc. I could see this somewhat affecting game placements at some pt in the future.
