You got to be kidding. A Victoria Secret model with no acting experience. Well it isn't the first time someone without experience got a part in a big movie but with the bidget Transformers 3 will have they could have done better than this model. There are plenty of waitresses/actresses to do the part yet this woman was chosen? Granted Megan Fox isn't a good actress but can't we find a beauty out there that can act with the millions of people that could qualify? Ok 1000's of people but this model will now have a chance to show fans what acting chops she has. Maybe she is taking acting classes and just needs a break? Wonder what Shia Lebeof thinks of his new cast mate?

I really don't think the Victoria Secret models are all that. Alot are skinny no figure women that get by on their face.

The problems are these:

1. They already had a script and were on the verge of shooting with Megan Fox. The timing of her departure likely meant that her replacement likely would have to take a much smaller role than intended for Fox's character, Mikaela. Because of that, you don't really need a good actress for a small role.
2. It's likely this will be the last Transformers movie, so it's not as if you really need to mine for talent because there is a great future here.
3. Michael Bay is notorious for being an extremely difficult director to work with, particularly for his leading ladies. Many actresses would likely try to steer clear from him, particularly ones that didn't need to be in what may likely again be a poorly received sequel that isn't likely to have staying power beyond this movie.
4. And due to the reworking of the script due to Fox's departure from the film, I'm sure the people that had to handle the re-writes and casting basically decided that Sam (Shia LaBeouf's character) and Mikaela broke up, and thus felt the need to get a super hot woman to be a replacement, so that audiences aren't going, "He broke up with Megan Fox for her?" when they finally see the movie.

All of these factors likely lead to the casting of a Victoria's Secret model (#4) with no acting experience (#1) and thus doesn't know any better (#2 and #3).

Throw in the fact that shooting has already begun, you don't want to also halt production for several weeks/months for an exhaustive casting search/auditioning process to find someone beautiful that can act.

In spite of the negatives of working with Bay and the other issues you mentioned I am sure there are enough trained beautiful actresses that still would die for the part.Even a little part in a movie can lead to bigger things so why wouldn't Bay sign a trained actress?Bay must have some relations with this new inexperienced model to just hand her the part.

Megan fox was eye candy yet from the pics of this new model Bay could have found someone better.Oh well bigger things in life to worry about instead of contemplating this movie.

You're right, there are plenty of beautiful trained actresses that could have landed the part. But big named, beautiful actress like a Scarlett Johansson isn't going to sign on for Transformers. It's beneath her.

So basically, if you want a quality actress that is beautiful, you're likely going to have to go through an exhaustive auditioning process to find one to find someone that isn't a name, because as I said above, a name actress isn't likely to do the movie.

And with production already rolling, you can't just find a beautiful actress that has latent star potential by turning over a rock. So you would have to halt production for weeks in order to find that person, and that costs lots of money.

Not to mention that factor that the chick has to be really hot to make it believable that Sam is going to dump Megan Fox for her. ANd it's doubtful you're going to find that person who actually has acting chops at the drop of a hat.

There's no reason to think that this model chick was their first choice. She coudl have easily been their 11th choice, and the 10 more experience, talented, etc. actresses they wanted turned them down. She could essentially be the Chan Gailey of their options.

Good point Pudge she may have been the 11th choice.Still if you think about it unless this model is doing acting classes Bay could have very easily picked someone off the street.I don't think the Victoria Secret models are all that. There must have been some audtion process somewhere just to give a part to a model out of the blue is just plain dumb.There has to be more to the story than what we see in this article.

I am not saying give Scarlett Johanson or Jessica Alba the part since they would cost to much and it is beneath them but I am sure there are a number of trained actresses that haven't made it big and would love a small part like this since Transformers 3 might revert back to the form that made it a great movie. Transformers 2 didn't exactly show poor revenue dollars it did quite well.

Shoot come to think of it Ali Landry could use a part if were talking about no name actresses. Remember she was the Doritios potato chip girl that everyone said who's that. Hey maybe Miley Cyrus could play the part that way all the teenie boppers would want to see the movie.

Yeah, but someone off the street isn't going to live up to the movie's reality that Shia dumped Megan Fox for her. And again, to go for some undiscovered talent would require an exhaustive auditioning process, halting production and costing the studio lots of money.

It seems fairly simple task, but it's not like football where there are a ton of street free agents out there and teams have tape on guys. In football, free agents are a relatively known quality because scouts have done their homework on guys over several years. If you need a big-armed quarterback, there is a list of guys that teams can look at to find that. There isn't some magic list in Hollywood, where there are hot, young actresses with star quality/potential between the ages of 21-25 that is available to shoot for the next 3-5 months and is willing to work with an abrasive director in a dying movie franchise. At least I don't think there is.

I would think there still are training schools or teachers that would be able to give a director a list of top students to a director. There has to be more to the story this model basically was plucked off the street you could say. I mean if a top teacher said so and so was ready vs a model who never saw a script who would you hire? Reminds me of Betty Grable discovered in a soda shop well guess there is hope for all of us one day we could be in the movies if it were that easy.

Yeah, I'm sure Michael Bay could call up some respected acting teacher/coach and say do you have anybody that is 21-25 that really has some talent. And the teacher would say yes, and then he would get their headshot and discover that she's a fairly average looking girl. Megan Fox is one of the hottest chicks in the world. It makes little sense in the movie reality that Shia breaks up with a 10 and starts dating a 6.

Also, you're probably overestimating just how good an actress you need for this role. It's not as if Megan Fox was being forced to bring a lot of dramatic weight to the character. It's basically a role where you're supposed to look hot, looked scared on occasion, and run around while things explode around you. It doesn't exactly require the next Meryl Streep or Julia Roberts to pull it off.

We're not talking about casting the Diary of Anne Frank by any means here. It's an eye candy role, and the fact that they've had to re-cast in the middle of production isn't going to make it less so. You have to remember what demographic the movie is marketed towards: 18-40 year old males.

And even if you do happen upon that 23-year old actress who is both beautiful and talented, I'm not sure she would jump at the chance to do the movie, even if she's an unknown. Any actress that wants to eventually be known for her acting ability and not her measurements isn't exactly going to be advised to jump into what is essentially an eye candy role. I wouldn't call it career suicide, but I don't think Transformers 3 is going to be the bridge to play Jackie Kennedy in some biopic 3 years down the road. It's more likely the bridge to play the hot chick in some raunchy R-rated comedy.

Doing a big Hollywood blockbuster your first time out isn't the most common path to staying power and long-term success. Just ask Megan Fox.

Pudge,so your saying that more than likely if a hot young talented woman that is an unknown wouldn't prosper from this role? Hmm Racquel Welch has had a long career even when she did that movie 10,000 BC she still got roles although she never did break the sexy roles. There are not alot of parts for women past a certain age in Hollywood so if your undiscovered,talented, and for good meassure attractive why not take that chance?

The model Bay picked certainly can't be one of the hottest in hollywood. You mentioned Megan Fox being one of the hottest women in the world. When I visited LA my only time I needed some pants so I went to a store at the Bevely Hills Mall. I was looking around and out of nowhere this incredible hot young girl probably early 20's said can I help you. This girl could rival Megan Fox but she was working at a clothing store. Now I find it hard to believe this model got the part since there are more attractive women even in clothing stores. You don't have to be Meryl Streep to play the part so I still am scratching my head why this girl got the part. Pamela Anderson seems to have had a rather long career wearing bathing suits.Jessica Alba not doing to bad herself. I think it is extremely hard for an attractive woman to be taken seriously for any meaty part in a movie. You are either eye candy or forgotten about in Hollywood. I think Scarlett Johanson could be one of the few who has some acting chops to play serious parts but not many have it.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

Personally, I don't find the chick to be that great looking. Like a 7. But she is a Vicky Secret's Model, so I'm sure there are plenty of men that think of her as a 10. And I'm sure when the movie comes out, they will highlight her assets to make her look really good.

But anyway, back to the apples and oranges. What Raquel Welch did 30-40 years ago, really isn't really applicable to today. That's like me talking about Gale Sayers and Reggie Bush, and while they are comparable, one can't assess Reggie Bush's career path based on what Sayers did or did not do.

And Pamela Anderson and Jessica Alba both got their starts in television, which made them sex symbols, not a $200 million summer blockbuster that most of America is probably going to wind up seeing at some point.

Megan Fox did 2 TV shows before she landed Transformers. She was on some obscure Swedish soap that nobody in the states saw, and then she was on Hope & Faith. So unless you're in the Kelly Ripa Fan Club, you had no clue who she was. Then she did Transformers and blew up and became practically a household name.

And as a result, she was "type-casted" because of her hotness as a vapid, super hot chick. Now it's debatable if she has/had the acting ability to play anything else. But you know how first impressions are.

And if you're the agent of a young, talented actress that is very attractive, I think you should be reluctant about her first major foray in the business being a role in Transformers, where you're just going to be essentially used as eye candy. Because from then on, because of that first impression, people are going to try to cast you as eye candy. If you want to be appreciated for your acting ability, your best bet is to start small, with smaller supporting roles and work your way up the ladder. Now that can be a long, and ultimately unsuccessful road to fame and fortune, but the odds of it working out are much better than being cast as some eye candy in a huge budget blockbuster right off the start, and then thinking people are going to start casting you as Erin Brockovitch, or Johnny Cash's wife, or a pregnant heroin addict, or whatever role A-list actresses get.

Now, if you're a young, talented unknown actress, and you're goal in 10-15 years is to be Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, etc., then I wouldn't jump at the chance to be in Transformers.

And I'm not sure why you're so upset that the studio gave an eye candy role to eye candy. It's not this travesty that you make it out to be.

OK Pudge I'll agree with you.If a Halle Berry,Reese Weatherspoon,Jolie were coming up I doubt they would take a Transformers role for fear of being typecasted. Anyway any exposure is good for an actor or actress you never know how it may help you in the future. While there is a negative of being typecasted remember there are many who never get the opportunity even to fill an eye candy role let alone be the next Halle Berry so it is a double edged sword.

Yep, there are hundreds if not thousands of waitresses and porn stars in Los Angeles that wish they could have landed the role. But one likes to believe that if they truly have star potential, other doors and opportunities will open for them in the future. It's hard for me to believe that the next Angelina Jolie or Halle Berry won't eventually be discovered if she's out there. The fact that person missed out on this opportunity doesn't bother me that much. They wanted another Megan Fox, they got another Megan Fox, and I shed no tears for the hundreds (if not thousands) of other Megan Foxes that exist.

To me it's much more interesting what happens to Megan Fox's career than that of the person that replaced her. She's probably done in Hollywood. Maybe lands a few more eye-candy roles, but nothing serious. At least not until she plays a pregnant junkie hooker in some independent movie. She needs to find a role that will ugly her up a bit like Charlize Theron in Monster before she can be taken seriously.

If one wants to be appreciated for their acting ability, one should avoid superficial roles that are essentially there for one to be eye candy. It's the Brad Pitt strategy. Worked well for him, and while it's not quite the same with the opposite gender, I think should work well for any enterprising actress that happens to be drop-dead gorgeous.

Pudge, you know Charlize Theron was the one actress I was thinking who broke out of the eye candy status when she did Monster like you said. Not sure how she convince the director but she got the role. That is what is going to take for Alba,Fox and some others to do to show they have acting chops.

I guess it's hard being beautiful if your a woman. At least getting parts in Hollywood if you want something other than eye candy roles.These ladies will need to be as homely as possible to do a serious role. Maybe they should not wear makeup and do the audition in the morning when they first wake up?

I can't remember who mentioned this maybe Racquel Welch said she got pigeon holed as a sex symbol and couldn't get out of that role her whole career. Amazing she has lasted for decades.Great genes can do wonders she still looks attractive even in her 60's I think she is.Oh well if life doesn't work out as an actress they'll marry some rich guy and live off his money that's the way it usually works. Oh the disadvantages of being beautiful!

Charlize Theron wasn't ever really eye candy though. She looked good, but I never saw her in a role where she was cast just for the sole purpose of looking good. She played a wacked out wife in the Devil's Advocate, raised gorillas in Mighty Joe Young, the wife of an alien in the Astronaut's Wife, and the closest being the honeypot in Reindeer Games before she landed Monster.

You can roll your eyes at being beautiful, and while I have not been a woman nor plan to ever be, I do somewhat understand the undue stress that the pressure to appear beautiful is tough on women in general, particularly women in Hollywood.

Women are judged by how they look. Men are judged by what they do. That becomes magnified in a visual industry like cinema. I'm sure everyone here that has ever had a girlfriend or wife (or at least knew someone that had one of those) knows that it takes a man 15-30 minutes to get ready and gussied up for a night out, while for a woman it takes 1-3 hours (if not more).

I played a game a few days ago, was just people answering odd and interest questions openly. And one of those questions was how many times do you look at yourself in the mirror on a daily basis. I answered 2 or 3 times, and most of the other men in the room basically gave an answer that one could count on a single hand. The two girls in the room, while not being scientific about said like 20 or 30 times. I don't think that's an exaggeration.

Now being blessed with beauty is a gift, but it can also be somewhat a curse. Jessica Simpson becomes a fat slob at 125 pounds. Nicole Kidman has to spend thousands of $$$ on plastic surgery because she turns 35 and has to try her best to look 5-10 years younger or else she isn't going to get any roles besides playing a middle-aged professional in a romantic comedy opposite Alec Baldwin. For someone like Raquel Welch, who desperately wants to get out of those roles, still is pressured to look as good as possible because if she doesn't, then those sex symbol roles will dry up immediately. So it's somewhat a Catch-22.

I'm not going to say the costs outweigh the benefits, but it's not all rainbows and candy waterfalls all the time.
