Nolan Carroll, CB, Maryland

Postby OGDraft » Sat Apr 10, 2010 4:26 pm

Nolan Carroll - CB - Maryland
Height: 5'11
Weight: 204
40 Time: 4.43
Projected: 6th-7th

Positives:

- Great combination of size and speed
- High jumper
- Able to stick with WR's on deep routes
- Good footwork
- Great closing speed
- Good awareness in zone
- Willing against the run
- Isn't afraid to get into the trenches
- Reliable tackler
- Lays some big hits
- Uses his body and hands well to disrupt WR
- Shows a good jam
- Can get his hands in to knock balls away

Negatives:

- Not very experienced
- High backpedal
- Hips aren't the smoothest and will struggle to keep up with small shifty WR's
- Opens his hips up too early too often
- Will give up catches underneath
- Bad hands, won't get a lot of picks
- Too often goes for the big hit instead of playing the ball
- Struggles to get off blocks from WR's
- Coming off a broken leg

Overview:

Nolan Carroll is an average, at best, CB who is gifted with a great combination of size and speed. He is not a true cover corner and he will struggle in the NFL because he will have trouble sticking with faster WR's that can leave him in the dust with their quick cuts. However, he projects nicely to a ST player that will give you good effort. He is a great tackler and gives a good pop. To me he projects better to FS than CB because of his tackling technique, but if a OL ever gets his hands on him he will be easily taken out of the play.
