PROS: Has a nice first step and motor that does a good job finishing plays. Can push the pocket and get penetration to make plays in the backfield. Can work laterally down the line and make plays in pursuit. Has some closing burst on the ball. Decent athlete that has some ability to drop off in coverage on short zones. Has a decent swim move and shows some ability as a bull rusher.
CONS: Gets engulfed at times at the point of attack and pushed off the ball. Struggles against double teams. Needs to do a better job getting off blocks at the point of attack. Doesn't break down in the backfield or space and will miss stops at the point of attack.
OVERVIEW: He plays mostly the 3-techqnique for Arizona and can be a disruptive presence at times, but can be light vs. the run a bit too often. Productive as a senior with 6.5 sacks. Began his career as a tight end.
NFL FORECAST: Mitchell is a fairly one-dimensional player that doesn't excel in his one dimension, which is rushing the quarterback. He's not bad, but he's just not good enough to be an impact player there in the NFL. He can be disruptive, but even with extensive playing time at the next level, he'd be lucky to get more than 2 or so sacks in a season. His problem is going to be holding up vs. the run. He has ability to get better, but since's neither big nor strong enough to be a presence there. So he'll have to be relegated to a rotation. For a team looking for a reserve under tackle that could boost the rotation, he could be a good fit. He can stick as a fourth tackle in a 4-3 team's rotation, and with more time might be worth could be a decent third option.
ATL FORECAST: Mitchell could help the Falcons rotation, but he'd have to bulk up and get better as a run stopper. He could challenge Lewis and Walker as the fourth tackle in the rotation, but unlikely to beat either. He is a better pass rusher than either, but is not going to be any better as run stoppers, which is primarily where the Falcons want to get stronger in their rotation.
VALUE: For a 4-3 team looking for a backup under tackle, Mitchell would be a decent sixth or seventh round pick.
