Tony Moeaki
6-3/252
Iowa Senior

Pros: Has nice speed with the potential to stretch defenses and can make plays after the catch because of it. Has nice hands and good athleticism. Will lay out for the ball with good body control and ability to make the jump ball catch. Does a nice job adjusting to the throw. Shows some pop off the snap as a blocker and is able to get position. Does a nice job getting the seal on the edge as an H-back and is effective in pass protection.
Cons: Will drop some passes and needs to do a better job timing his jumps. Needs to improve his hand use as a blocker at times, and isn't always able to hold his block. Needs to polish up his technique, particularly his balance as a blocker.
Overview: Moeaki had a breakout senior year with 30 catches after combining for 36 in his previous three seasons. He had to battle injuries in the two previous years as a starter, which granted him an extra year of eligibility, and he took advantage of it with his best season. He's an athletic guy that is a good all-around player. He doesn't wow you in any area, but is good in all aspects to project well for the next level.
NFL Forecast: He has all the tools to be a very good tight end on the next level, but because he doesn't excel anywhere I'm not sure I'd expect him to be a top player. He's not very big, but he is a good blocker that can contribute either as an H-back or inline blocker. He needs more polish there, but in time he'll be an effective player there. As a receiver, he has a lot of potential, but I'm not sure he'll ever be a go-to threat for an NFL offense. He could be a nice complementary option in the mold of a Visanthe Shiancoe as opposed to another Alge Crumpler. And he's a guy that could easily catch 40-50 passes a year, but I'm not sure he's going to ever be considered one of the top tight ends at his position. I think he'll be closer to a Ben Watson type, in that there will be times where his athleticism is eye-popping, but he won't be able to do that consistently every week.
ATL Forecast: Moeaki would be a nice developmental player to put behind Gonzalez. He can contribute as an H-back right away, but also be able to contribute as an inline blocker down the road. Eventually he can be a good replacement for Gonzo in the starting lineup. He should be a better blocker than Gonzalez, but probably won't be the consistent receiving option although there will be times when he makes Gonzo-like catches. And while he could be a nice asset in a balanced attack for the Falcons down the road, he probably won't be the matchup nightmare that a top tight end is for defenses. He'd be a good third option for the Falcons in the passing game, but an underwhelming second one. But either way, he'd be a good fit in Atlanta's offense because of his versatility to contribute as an inline tight end and H-back and he can do the same things that Gonzalez does, just not as well.
Value: Some team might get enamored with Moeaki's athletic potential and take him late in the second round, but that would be a bit of a reach. He'll be a good starter, but not a top starter, and he's more in line with third round talent.
