Well we already have a few slackers. I suggest that if they miss the draft as well, then it doesn't bode well for their participation.

I have no one to keep unless I have Ricky Williams.

Yeah, not setting keepers is a pretty bad start...

Guess I'm screwed then,

I'll play but didn't realize not keeping keepers was a bad deal until now reading the forum. Had some keepers on the list but took them off.

And no I didn't abandon my team. I'm Bees Knees btw

While I know its my fault for not reading the deadline was wednesday.. Why is the ability to change keepers locked a week before the draft (my first time in a keeper league so if this is standard ignore my question)

It's a setting that ESPN requires. I set it to the last day it would allow. Twig, let me know who you want to keep, and I can set them for you. In the meantime, I set the keepers for your team and the other two teams that were not set:
Pen Island Parliment
Sid Vicious

If you own one of these teams and want your keepers changed, please let me know at least a few hours prior to the draft so I can set them for you.

That is such BS. This is why I really would like to see a new Commish. Last year you drug your feet way too long, and it almost ruined the league. Not to mention you missed the draft AND gave yourself the #1 pick. A deadline is a deadline....it was a deadline for months. This sort of enabling is the reason players do as they choose in this league.

Order was determined by order of finish last year. Don't even try to give me any crap with that. As far as keepers go, as long as they get it set before the draft, I don't see how that affects anybody else. I appreciate that most of us set them in advance, but it really is a petty thing to get upset over and I'm happy to update them for as long as I'm able prior to the draft.

Here's the standings from last season if you are still twisted up over the draft order:
DIVISION 1
TEAM W L T PCT GB
Vancouver Trappers 7 5 0 .583 --
Albany NY MyNutsBooger 7 5 0 .583 --
Pudge's Fighting Clabos 6 6 0 .500 1
Pen Island Parliment 6 6 0 .500 1

DIVISION 2
TEAM W L T PCT GB
Nuremberg Nihilists 9 2 1 .792 --
Mount Sinai Golden Heifers 7 5 0 .583 2.5
Cappy's Gloryhounds 4 8 0 .333 5.5
dynamo zagreb 3 8 1 .292 6

DIVISION 3
TEAM W L T PCT GB
Matt's Waterheads 10 2 0 .833 --
Team Wolfpack 5 7 0 .417 5
PuffPuff Pass 4 8 0 .333 6
A Reptile Dysfunction 3 9 0 .250 7

Read what I said Happ. I said the draft order LAST YEAR. It doesn't really mean a Rat's butt how you run the league.

You have proven numerous times it is a challenge for you. When someone sets a deadline month's in advance then that should be the deadline....period.

Don't take this personal. You know we go back a long way and I like you quite a bit. No, this is just the Peter Principle in full bloom. Pick a management style and stick to it.

I apologize, wasn't trying to make it personal. I read more into it than you apparently intended. As far as last year's draft, I did have some personal issues going on at draft time, that's true, but I do plan on being more involved this season.

At least there will be a bit more drama in this year's league.

So the pre-draft rankings don't take into account keepers teams have selected eh?

Soooo... If I elect to not keep all 4 of my keepers that means the draft slots I don't have a keeper I would get to make a pick... No?

That's right...but there in lies the reason for deadlines. Let's say one of your keepers rips up a knee. You appeal to Happ, who then lets you drop the keeper pick, or choose another. This gives you an unfair advantage. A solid Commish would never, EVER let a manager pick after the deadline. It is wrong and poor management. If your keepers are top 4 picks in the draft, then keep them...if not, then take the risk and don't keep them. But changing the rules for incompetent managers sets a bad precedence.

Personally a "Dynasty League" is much better....you run your team like a real GM, you get to keep your whole team if you want. You draft NCAA players just like the Pros. All unwanted players go into the free agent pool. If I were allowed to keep my Championship team from last year, I would easily win again this year.

This was the first keeper league for many of us. We can be more hardass about it next year if that's what we want to do, but I'm trying to be lenient as people figure it out. We can increase the number of keepers if we decide to, as well. I put the keeper number up for a vote last year, and 4 was the consensus. Now that we're about to go through the draft, we can see if we want to make some tweaks. I get what you want to happen here, Birdbrain, and you do make some good points. Let's discuss making changes and vote on them.

I've never done a keeper league so this was all new to me! I for one appreciate Happ not going hardass on everyone the first time around.

After this keeper run is over I'm all for BB's idea of a dynasty league.

I'd be willing to do it a long side my keeper team if someone wants to get it started.

We could just increase the keeper count to match the full roster size, or close to it (my preference would be to set the keeper count to match the roster size plus a couple of bench players with everybody else being "free agents") and we'll be all set without having to do a new league from scratch.

That's correct Happ...that's all you would have to do. You also need to add one or two Injured reserve....you can do that this year.

I would have to say no on that one. If I do a dynasty team I want a fresh draft. I ran my squad last year with the idea of only keeping 4 guys max.

That and I'm burning personal time to take half the day off so I can make the draft tonight.

If you want to switch it to dynasty mode after the draft I would fine with that.

Not a real big fan of the dynasty league. I like having a relatively low number of keepers, because it challenges you to bring your game to the draft every year, rather than having 1 good year of drafting, and then coasting from that point.

Maybe increase the keepers to 6, but anything more than that and I'm not a fan.

Especially since it would be nicer if we could get another 4-6 people to join the league in the future.
