FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Atlanta Falcons today placed tight end Ben Hartsock on injured reserve and signed free agent tight end Jason Rader.
Hartsock, a Falcons free agent acquisition this past offseason, injured his toe in last Sunday’s 45-28 victory against the Carolina Panthers. This season, the Ohio State alum totaled three receptions for 26 yards in 11 games and helped block for an Atlanta rushing attack that has logged 1,667 yards.
Rader was signed by the Falcons as a free agent on March 14, 2008, but was released following training camp. He was signed by Atlanta again on September 17, 2008 and started in one contest against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8.

WalterFootball.com's 2008 Overall Draft Review for the Atlanta Falcons: "In my opinion, Matt Ryan's definitely not worth the No. 3 overall pick. If I had to compare him to a quarterback in the NFL, I'd say Jake Delhomme. Not terrible, but very mediocre. Atlanta should have went after Brian Brohm or Chad Henne in the second round, and either traded down or picked Glenn Dorsey/Sedrick Ellis. ... Sam Baker? Ugh. Atlanta shouldn't have traded up for him. Major reach ... The Kroy Biermann pick was so bad I confused him for a running back from Montana instead of an end from Duke."
