Falcons release Paul Soliai

NBC Sports reports the Atlanta Falcons have released veteran DT Paul Soliai.



Thought he'd play better than he did......

This likely would've happened even if Soliai was good in 2014. People need to understand that unless you're getting a Pro Bowl talent (Charles Woodson and Drew. Breed are best examples), most free agents that sign long-term deals will only play out 2-3 years of it.

Teams sign these 27 year old free agents to 5-yr deals and then cut them when they're 30 due to high cap hits and declining play.

Soliai was 30 when we signed him right? An a two-down player to boot? He was never gonna play more than 2-3 years with Falcons unless he proved to be one of the league's best run stoppers, something he hadn't been since 2010.

Thus why it was ridiculous for Falcons to pay what they did to get him.
