McLendon cut

Postby Pudge » Thu Jul 28, 2005 1:12 pm

Someone said over on the Falcons Roost that Mora said in his noon press conference that McLendon was cut and team would add another RB before the day is done. I guess McLeond fumbled one too many times. It's too bad, he was a good back.

Mclendon was a good back. It sucks that he would be cut. Hopefully you guys will get a good back to replace him.

Marlion Jackson was signed. He is a 6-1/255 fullback out of Saginaw Valley State. He's spent the past 2 years in the Arena Leagues, playing with Philly and Las Vegas.

In that span, he's played in 17 games, rushed for 166 yards on 53 carries (3.1 avg) and 3 TDs, and caught 20 passes for 266 yards and 7 touchdowns.

He played with the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2002, and had 364 yards on 92 carries (4.0 avg). He had stints with the Broncos (2003) and New York Jets (2000, 2002).

I'm not sure how good a chance he has to make the roster, because he's never really shown great rushing ability since his college days. He's got good size, a good pair of hands, and has experience playing defense (so his ST ability should relatively good), but I don't see him unseating Jason Wright or even Cobb for a job. Seemingly, the team might decide to use him at FB rather than halfback due to his size.

The guy stays hurt. What a shame because he's a very talented back. I'm a huge NCSU Wolfpack fan (went to school here ... I now work there), but he fumbled that ball on the goalline against the Tar Holes last year at the end of the game costing us the game against our hated rival. He'll never be forgiven for that:)
