Official Week 3 vs Dolphins Discussion Thread

Postby Emmitt » Sun Sep 15, 2013 9:22 pm

I was very high on Miami going into the season. I've predicted them to be a 9-7 wild card team, so far looking pretty good. Still the Falcons should beat them, as long as they harass Tannehill and don't let Wallace go crazy.

Cameron Wake is going to be a nightmare next week, really hope they double team on every passing play possible. Other than that, it should be a really fun game. I'm interested to see how the Dolphins look against a top team like Atlanta. Oh yeah and one other thing, Grimes!!!!

Not sure if Ryan wants to play jump ball with Julio against Brent "GRIMETIME" Grimes.

Grimes makes me nervous in this game, he played great today, and while Julio will get his, I could easily see Grimes picking one or two if we push it to Julio too much. Hopefully Roddy will be a little more recovered next week and be himself again. Also, as Emmitt noted, blocking Wake is going to be a nightmare, we got off easy today as Long was clearly not 100%. With that being said, I like the way our Defense matches up against their offense, not too worried about the passing or running games, so with that said, Atlanta takes it 20-16.....

The more Grimes plays well, the more I can laugh at Fun Gus' ignorant comments about him.

Safe to say, Matt Ryan better have his pain killers ready Sunday night?

Ryan is smart, smarter than most people can see unless they spend about 8 hours a week on each game. He gets rid of the ball quickly to minimize big hits. He's tough enough to take the normal everyday hit. I'd look for a lot of screens and short passes. We'll go dink and dunk with the occasional down field shot. Hopefully, the line will continue to improve (Holmes played much better than in week 1) and then do things a little more like we want. The line is currently in a state of being better on the move than maintaining a pocket. I think we'll be fine...

Just some quick thoughts:

1. I have a feeling that Massaquoi might turn some heads this week. I don't think we'll feel the impact of Biermann as much as we will Weatherspoon.

2. The Dolphins can be run on. Not saying it will be an easy task but they are very susceptible to pulls.

3. If you see 8 in the box, watch for Ryan to audible to a screen or quick slant. If he does, they'll go for good chunks of yards and the Dolphins will back off their blitz which will open up the run.

4. Look for 2 man zone on Wallace (if he plays). I see Trufant on Hartline while Alford takes Wallace up to intermediate routes while either DeCoud or Moore take the top end with the LB's responsible for Clay.

5. The Dolphins run a quick pass scheme so the goal will be to hold them to short gains and force them to convert 3rd and longs where Tannehill will have to take chances.

6. Teams are still not throwing a lot on Trufant and for good reason. Let's see if that trend continues.

7. What will our 2 LB set look like? Dent and Bartu or Bartu and someone else?

Okay, I'm new here but I've been a Falcons fan since '68.

Considering our injuries and O-line, I am seriously concerned that we will make it through the season with our franchise QB intact and winning enough games to make the playoffs.

Today's game against the Dolphins pits us against two guys who split out on us on F/A. Hope we put 'em to shame.

Tow in today, in my ever so humble opinion (hak!), we need to protect Matty, put pressure on Miami's pass AND run game while NOT giving up big plays. With our D crippled and our O-line as yet uncertified... I am worried.

Gawd, I hope I am not here alone today.

Woo hoo!

Is that our first sack of the season?

Oops. My bad - our 3rd.

NP... all things considered, I have to confess I have been more than a little concerned. It got worse last possession when Tony G limped off...
