Edinger is worth a shot. The issue is that he does not have a "kickoff leg". IN 5 seasons in the NFL, he's had 11 touchbacks. Feely had 13 last year. I'm sure, he would be more effective in the dome environment, but he never has possessed a really strong leg.
He has shown that he can kick indoors. For his career, he's made 22 of 27 kicks there (81.5%), while he's kicked 88 of 119 field goals outdoors (73.9%).
The issue with Edinger, is that he's really struggled these past two seasons. It may have a lot to do with the fact that the Bears have not consistently played in the same place. With their move to Champaigne in 2003, and their move back to Soldier Field, Edinger hasn't found his sweet spot, something he had back in the early part of his career.
Edinger would be a better option than either Ryan Rossner or Michael Koenen, but he lacks their leg strength.
