cap question...

Postby fun gus » Tue Apr 30, 2013 8:54 am

as of right now there are a few DE still on the market ( Freeney,Abe,Dansby) and a few OL ( B Moore, Clabo, Winston) and the clock is ticking...My question is, if we wait until June, and thier price drops, and we restructure Ryan's contract, how much $$ can we reasonably 'free up' and do you think we make a push for one of these guys? Or, are our hands tied due to the salary cap? :?:

In the short term I think a Ryan extension would help the Falcons this season and next. It would theoretically likely carry a lower cap hip than what he is currently scheduled to earn.

Long term not so much... If Abe or Freeney came to the conclusion that they would be better off signing a cap-friendly 1 year deal with a contending team the Falcons could likely sign them. But they both are still looking to get paid the Falcon's couldn't afford them.

I would think it is 50/50 that the Falcons bring back Abe or add Freeney. I gotta think that Dimitroff is entertaining the idea considering the Falcons' didn't add a high pick at DE.
