Why don't the Falcons look at Dansby? I think he'd be a good fit for Atlanta. Granted I'm sure others don't agree but I like Dansby and think he would add a lot to our LB group.

I wanted Dansby when the Cardinals let him go. I don't know at this point... He might not have a lot of fuel left.

Don't we only have 4 LBs on the roster currently? If anything he'd be good depth if we can get him at a good price.

Dansby could play SAM for us. But he'll be 32 this Fall. Keith Brooking was 33 when we cut him after 2008. Mike Peterson was 33 when we signed him the following year. You're really at the end of your career when you're Dansby's age. That wouldn't be an issue if he was just a situational, two-down linebacker to try and hide his declining skills in coverage. But for that to work in Atlanta, he'd probably need to play special teams as well. I think ultimately that's why the Falcons keep Stephen Nicholas over some potentially better options, because Nicholas is a good ST player. Mike Peterson played ST the past 2 seasons, and was competent. And really, if you could, you could get a more athletic SAM linebacker in this draft that can play ST early in his career, and then move into the starting lineup to replace Nicholas down the road.

But I think the Falcons figure that Dansby's short-term value isn't enough to supercede the long-term value of having a developmental young player from the draft.
