Is he becoming a problem, or is it no big deal?

Not sure what the complaints would be. He made what, three fair catches on the 10? Those are ones you want him to make. he gets on at the 12 and under heavy pressure gets it almost to the twenty. Its not like he had tons of room to run any back.

I was not a fan of Weems, and I'm not a fan of Franks. PR should be something that we pursue in the off season.

Franks can call a fair catch; but he's no return specialist!!

I agree that Franks is ok but I wish we had more of a threat to return punts.

He pulled some suspect crap this past game. I really wished they had kept Michael Calvin or Cody Pearcy. But I dont think it's that much of a problem. I mean, he's shown promised from time to time. But I think maybe someone else could do a much better job.

It's not a major problem, but I'm getting annoyed a bit. He has to be on the hot seat though because he's had maybe one decent return all year.

Him chasing down a rolling punt was about as stupid as you get, and could have cost us the game. If he can't run up to catch the ball, don't chase after it as is rolls toward the middle of the field, period.

There's got to be someone better than Franks. He does not look confident at all when deciding what to do, and then once he gets the ball has no moves at all.

i'm starting to miss Eric Weems a bit. Am I wrong for rooting for a Franks fumble so they can finally bench him?

I too am tired of Franks so much that I have ceased to follow him on twitter . Seriously though he is no threat to make anything happen back there I thought the reason they cut Cody Pearcy was because he was to small but then I see Trindon Holiday taking kicks back to the house last weekend and I know he has to be smaller than Cody was. Why not let Antoine Smith get a chance back there or even Harry since he rarely gets used on Offense, I would say Cone but his hands scare me .

Put James Rodgers back there.

After seeing Trindan Holiday light up the last few weeks again what if TD would have drafted him. Why does TD continue to neglect the punt return position? I think Holiday runs kick offs back also. When you have a chance to improve the position draft him. Holiday wasn't a high pick either. Missed out again on another good player I liked before the draft.

Honestly hope Franks muffs a punt in the next game or two. Sorry for thinking evil, but thats what it will take.

Franks problem has mainly been from being too tentative. You gotta catch it, make the first guy miss, and GO. That last bit is what he's not doing. He did it in the preseason and at the start of the regular season.

Maybe he'll step it up.

I think he is also tentative regarding which puntsto field at all. Lots of times he has let short punts drop and bounce for negative yards when it seemed he could have either caught it on the fly or fair caught it. I also recall one he fielded about the 7 yd line. Lack of confidence? As pivotal as punt returns can be it would seem worth while to put a more savy playmaker back there like HD.

Agreed! He certainly isn't helping us win games.

I thought Toone was more consistent during camp, although Franks showed a greater flair for the big play after his first return. But Toone doesn't sit around waiting for something to develop like Franks does.

It might just mean 7-10 yard returns with Toone rather than the potential 35-yarder, but I think it's valuable to know your guy can consistently give you 10 or so additional yards of field position every time he touches the ball. Weems was like that.

Its reliability > explosiveness. Obviously you want both, but often times in those clutch, late game situations the former becomes more valuable.
