Week 3 vs. Bucs review:

http://falcfans.com/moneyball-2011-week-3-review-4918

Notes:

It was a silly penalty, but it was still fun to see Jacquizz Rodgers get the unnecessary roughness against E.J. Biggers on Weems big return, where Rodgers was blocking Biggers and drove him all the way to the Bucs bench out of bounds. Again, about as dumb a penalty as you'll come across since Quizz has to realize he's out of bounds when he's in the midst of the Bucs sideline, but still nice to see that sort of toughness.

Maybe Adrian Clayborn wouldn't have been as bad a #1 pick as many of us thought?

Week 5 Review vs. Packers:

http://falcfans.com/moneyball-2011-week-5-review-4966

Sidbury and Spoon's sacks on the Packers 2nd offensive series were "impact" sacks because it basically prevented the Packers from scoring 7 points in the redzone. Compared to many of the sacks that Abe had last year.

Here's how Rodgers passed against our different pass rushes:

Rush 3 (7 plays): 2 for 6 for 17 yards; 1 sack, 1 drop
Rush 4 (28 plays): 17 for 25 for 241 yards, 1 TD; 2 sacks, 5 PD, 1 drop
Rush 5 (9 plays): 7 for 8 for 138 yards, 1 TD; 1 pressure, 1 QB hit
Rush 6 (1 play): 0 for 0 for 0 yards; 1 sack

Week 10 Review vs. Saints:

http://falcfans.com/moneyball-2011-week-10-review-5100

Here are my notes:

  • Joe Hawley might be the dirtiest blocker on the team. Falcons consistently chippy after the whistle, hoping to draw a retaliation penalty. Worked late in the game with Hawley pushing Dunbar.
  • Gave a pressure to Clabo where he and Hawley double teamed the DT, which allowed the DE to come free off the edge and pressure Ryan to throw it away in the redzone.
  • Hawley missed a block trying to pull outside because Clabo got blown off the ball into the backfield, and their feet got tangled. So I gave Clabo the credit for the missed block instead of Hawley.
  • Cameron Jordan was punking Tyson Clabo all game long.
  • If we had replay on field goals, I honestly believe that Matt Bryant made that 41-yard kick at the end of the first half. The ball sneaks inside and over the goalpost.
  • Ryan had 1 poor throw through the first 49 minutes of the game. Most of his incompletions up to then were throwaways, passes defended, or drops.
  • Deep Poor Throws by Ryan: 6 (I think 4 were 25+ yard throws)
  • Almost gave Jones a drop on that missed TD throw, but I'll give the DB credit for getting up in his grill. Same for Roddy near the end.
  • Refs Missed a hold on Jonathan Babineaux one of the few times the Falcons got pressure on Brees.
  • Missed a block in the back against Jason Snelling on it looked like Martez Wilson.
  • Ticky tack offensive pass interference vs. Roddy WHite.
  • Greer probably should have been penalized for his play on White in the endzone that could have won the game.
  • Turner earned $7 on the Falcons first offensive series.
  • Douglas had $3 before the final drive in the 4th.
  • Late in the 4th, There was a play where they had 5 split out wide. Gonzalez inside, Douglas outside, Weems in the middle on the left side. Gonzo and Douglas drew the coverage, which allowed Weems to come open to get a 9 yard completion. Did the same thing to the opposite side 2 plays later with Roddy on the outside, easy 5-yard completion to Weems. Why can't these plays be used more on 1st down? instead of just running Turner into the pile for 2 yards? Then on the final drive they had Weems on the outside to one side with Douglas, Gonzo, and White on the opposite side. Weems runs a little underneath slant across the field, with those 3 running vertical routes. Weems gets 11 yards on a 3rd & 10. Good play design by Mularkey, we need to do this stuff a lot more.

Congrats to Michael Palmer, he made his first catch of his career where he beat man coverage.
