Great thinker, I always liked this quote of his:

“In the hate column: dictatorship, religion, stupidity, demagogy, censorship, bullying and intimidation. In the love column: literature, irony, humor, the individual and the defense of free expression.”

I am a huge Hitch fan. Did not always agree, but he always entertained.

His legacy will be dominated by his unwavering support for the Iraq war. The sad fact is that while it was Bush's war, having people like Hitchens advocating for it helped sway popular (and media) opinion to the point where it was inevitable.

Steve I think you are giving Hitchens way to much credit as far as his influence. It was pretty obvious GW was going in no matter what. I was always against the war, and clearly disagreed with Hitchens. At the same time, I respect the man for his thought process and views on a number of other issues.

It's funny and maybe it is just my particular circle but I only knew one person who was in favor of the Iraq War on the front side. I know there were others but they were hard to find and I live in a bastion of conservative thought, relatively speaking.
