Thinking of buying a blue ray player any advice?

Thinking of buying a blue ray player any advice?

Postby thescout » Thu Dec 03, 2009 2:59 am

Since I just got a 52 inch TV where I watch alot of movies I was thinking of getting a blue ray player. I love the picture my TV gets now but I know blue ray is alot sharper and old DVDs will look alot better also. Any of you guys own a blue ray player? Any advice on brand? How does the picture look? Not going to spend alot but I see QVC has a blue ray player that goes for about $148. + ship/handling and the reviews by members are great. Its made by HP also comes with the HD cable which helps.

I can just imagine what a blue ray player would look like on my TV stunning but I wanted to get the boards advice if anyone has a blue ray player, thanks.

I got a blu-ray as a gift last Christmas, so I don't really know how much it cost, but it's a Sony.

I'm assuming your 52-incher is a high def TV. Because you'd be wasting your money on the player otherwise.

That's right Pudge 52 inch high definition. Does your blue ray player make a big difference watching the movies?

Well I'm only rocking about 22 inches on my TV screen, so you don't see the difference all that much.

But my brother is rocking 42 inches or something like that, and you can see the difference on his screen.

Whether it's worth it, also might depend on your taste in movies. A movie like Pirates of the Caribbean 3 or Dark Knight or Transformers would be worthwhile on blu-ray because I think with the clarity of picture, the special effects would look good. But if you're watching any old romantic comedy or whatever, then you could probably pass.

After all, hi-def was made for 3 things: sports, the food network, and action/epic movies

I'll probably get one since their not real expensive and over at QVC the reviewers rave about the picture better than the movie theaters.Yeah I understand if you have that mighty 22 inch screen probably not a big difference but this 52 inch from a 32 inch is huge. The pic is so much greater in size but also quality. I got it for a little over $1000 in 5 payments. Its alot lighter than my Sony TV (big bulky one) and very enjoyable to watch. Can't wait for the Super Bowl but since I lke watching movies can make older DVDs look good also.

I kept telling my dad for years to get a big screen he never did just alittle 27 inch. If he saw this pic he would love it but he's gone now.My brother in law will probably get one(blu ray) so I can see in another month if I want to wait.Hear I got the big screen and no falcons to watch, bummer. Can't get direct tv in my apartment trees blocking view. In a few yrs when I move to a house you betcha I'll be set.

For the last few years the PS3 was the best BR player. Were it me, Imake sure it was capable of downloadable content from Netflix.

Here is a selection of device that do that: http://www.netflix.com/NetflixReadyDevices

Pick Em Co-Champion 2011

Wease, thanks for the advice I really appreciate it. Looks like Netflix has thought of everything operating its business. I just changed from Blockbuster realizing I was getting the short end. Netflix is the way to go and their turn around time by mail is great. I'll look at those blue ray players on Netflix's site and maybe buy one will see. The instant play with Netflix could be huge and if not you get it in the mail.

The reviews of this blu ray look exceptional from QVC. It looks like it can connect ot the internet although I was unaware some companies don't allow more than one connection.Shouldn't be a problem since I have comcast and if that were the case all the people getting one of the Netflix blu ray players would be out of luck also.I'm looking for exceptional quality above all but if I can tie it into Netflix great.

DaveWaz, I used to get into video games but its addicting so I went cold turkey. It would be fun to play Madden on it but when I do something I tend to go all out so video games might not be good for me.
