Issues with logging in

Postby Pudge » Fri Feb 04, 2005 2:08 pm

I've had a few complaints about people having issues with loggin in and out of this forum. And I registered a new user today to see what if any of the issues came up. I'm still not 100% sure of the exact problem, but people have told me the error "Cannot be displayed" has come up on a few pages. I haven't gotten this problem, but I've had similar problems.

I think the solution is that next time you log-in, check the box that says you can stay logged in. Let me know if you do this and the problems still persist.

If you are using a computer that does not allow you to do this (like if it's a work computer), then I'm sorry, but I really don't know how to correct the problem. It may be something that has some residual effects from the site crash 6 weeks ago.

Please, if so can you explain this problem in even further detail so that I can try to nail down this problem.

I just logged in and had the same problem as always since the crash.... page cannot be displayed. I have tried every way I know of to overcome it including your suggestion of checking "remember me on this computer button" (or whatever it says).

I've given up worrying about it and just press on whenever I'm here.

Yeah I think the problem stems from a poor redirection. I think it has something to do with the software, but basically when you are at that "page cannot be displayed" you are logged in, but for some reason the form takes you to the wrong page.

I'm sure there is some way to fix it within the code, but I wouldn't know where to start, and tinkering would probably hurt it more than help it.

I'd think that should be the responsibility of the IFS Alliance software people, not you. After all, isn't it *their* system and we just use it?

No, actually the system belongs to phpBB. They have a lot of tutorials on their website about helping with support, but since I'm no programmer, most of that stuff is over my head.

IFS is simply an alliance of websites, similar to a webring.

Yep, I just had that error after registering. It takes me to a page that doesn't exist. I just took everything past the forum/ part on the url and it got me to where I was trying to go. I think it's looking for a login.php page.

I've had an interesting issue with having to log in twice everytime I log on the last week.

Are either of you still having that problem? I've found little issue with logging in as long as I check the box that says "leave me logged in".

I just logged out and logged back in and had to log in twice. I noticed this was the case when I used the login box located on the bottom of the front page.

If you use the Log in link at the top of the page, and log in there, you should only have to log in once.
