CHAS HENRY
6-3/215
Florida Senior

PROS:

Has a good, strong leg capable of making the booming kicks to get his team out of trouble. Can get good hangtime. Can sky some punts on the short field, to allow his guys to get downfield and down the ball inside the five yard line. Has experience kicking field goals and PATs.

CONS:

Doesn't consistently get hangtime and distance. Will line drive some kicks. Doesn't consistently kick his team out of trouble when they are backed up in their own territory. Doesn't consistently pin teams on the short field. Is an inaccurate field goal kicker.

OVERVIEW:

Henry didn't have to do a ton of work up until this past year due to the fact that Florida's offense was pretty good. Through his first three seasons, he averaged less than 3 punts per game. This past year he had a bit more of a workload due to Florida's inconsistent offense, but responded with his strongest season. He averaged 45.1 yards on 50 punts with only 3 touchbacks, 18 placed inside the 20. He never had any punts blocked out of 165 total. This past year, he had to pull double duty as the kicker for most of the year. Finished 7 of 11 on field goals for the year, and also had 11 kickoffs for an average of 60.8 yards with no touchbacks. He played quarterback in high school. Hails from Dallas, GA.

NFL FORECAST:

Henry has the potential to be a Pro Bowl punter because he has the big leg, and flashes the accuracy and placement potential to work the short field. The big thing with him is he needs to be more consistent. He's probably a few years away from getting there, but he is one of those punters that has the potential to average 45+ yards per punt as well as be at least above average at pinning teams deep. He's not a guy that I think is going to come in right away and be good, but i think he should at least be competent. Unlike kicker, there isn't a rich history of punters that were draft busts in the pros. Even the good ones that get off to slow starts eventually get their act together to a point where they become at least above average. While Henry has the big leg to kick in northern climates, the fact that he has very little experience kicking in elements probably makes him a question mark there. He's not going to be an option as a placekicker although he's not completely incompetent there. But there's very little chance he's going to be a guy like Michael Koenen was as a rookie, especially when you consider how unreliable he was from inside 40 yards.

ATL FORECAST:

Henry has the sort of leg strength that could outkick Koenen. If the Falcons didn't keep Koenen, he would make a suitable replacement for him as a rookie. He's not going to handle his kickoff chores to his level. But with his big leg and kicking indoors in the Georgia Dome, should help him transition fairly well to the pro game. Consistently will be the main concern, but by the time he gets to his second or third year, he should start to become one of the top punters in the league.

VALUE:

Henry's potential means he's worth a draft pick, possibly as high as the fifth round for a lower latitude team. A team that kicks in elements probably would be smart to wait until the seventh round because of how unproven he is in that regard.

SKILLS

Leg Strength: 4.0
Directional Kicking: 2.5
