WILL HILL
6-1/202
Florida Junior
40: 4.65

PROS:

Comes up and contributes in run support, showing good closing burst to cut the ballcarrier in the open field. Wraps up and can make the stop. Will come up and deliver hit to the receive over the middle. Has good speed and burst in pursuit. Has burst off the corner as a blitzer. Is comfortable playing in the box, and does a nice job filtering through traffic. Has nice ball skills and is able to jump routes and make the turnover. Contributes in special teams coverage.

CONS:

A bit undersized and will miss some stops on the edge in the flat. Can get caught looking in the backfield and give up the deep throw. Doesn't show the burst, speed, and range when working in centerfield. Not great in man coverage.

OVERVIEW:

You see the flashes of skills and upside with Hill, playing free safety in Florida's scheme, which often has him playing deep centerfield. He started 10 games this past year, and was suspended for the first two games of the season for violating team rules. He finished year with 54 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 picks, and 1 pass breakup, all of which came in one game. He probably needed to come back for another year, which raises issues of maturity and character. But he has three kids, which prompted his early departure. Was mostly a reserve his first two years, but was a regular in the rotation, combining for 90 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 picks, and 2 pass breakups. He also had 35 special teams tackles in those two years.

NFL FORECAST:

Hill has potential to be the type of ballhawking free safety that can be a good starter at the next level, but his early departure and lack of top production hurts him. But I see the speed, range, and ball skills to fit well as a free safety in most schemes. He has the size and speed and is good in run support. You like his potential and he can be one of the better safeties in the league because he has all the tools. But you worry about the character issues and he's a guy that could be a boom/bust prospect. Three years from now he could be developing into one of the better cover safeties in the league or he could be a disappointing backup because he doesn't make the progress. It's likely that he'll come in as a reserve and perform on special teams. And two or three years from now if he makes progress, then he can become a quality starter. But his ability as special teams will keep him in the league at least as a reserve. I would compare him to Brodney Pool in that he can be a good starter down the road, but probably not going to be an elite safety.

ATL FORECAST:

Hill has higher upside as a free safety than DeCoud because of his speed, range, and ball skills, but he's not a great candidate to come in and push him. If the Falcons didn't keep DeCoud after this season, he might be able to slide into the vacant starting role. But more than likely he'll just be a No. 3 safety that can perform on special teams and add good depth and insurance behind DeCoud.

VALUE:

Hill has second round potential but the character issues make me think he's a safety bet in the third or fourth round.

SKILLS
1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite

Speed: 3.5
Tackling: 3.0
Coverage: 2.5
Ball Skills: 3.0
Range: 3.5
