SHILOH KEO
6-0/223
Idaho Senior
40: 4.55 (estimated)

PROS:

Physical defender that will throw his weight around and deliver some big hits in run support. He's got good straight-line speed and burst and is active vs. the run. Shows some ability to handle deep responsibilities in Cover-2 and can blanket the tight end over the middle. Shows nice ability coming off the edge as a blitzer.

CONS:

Is limited in coverage and gets caught out of position too often. Will take some poor angles. Not a very cerebral player and needs to improve his awareness. Despite his physical style of play, at times can be tentative in run support and can get run over by runners.

OVERVIEW:

A four-year starter that was one of the leaders on Idaho's defense. He had a really strong junior campaign, leading the team with 113 tackles and 3 interceptions, before his production took a dip this past year with 61 tackles and 3 picks. He's a hard-hitting guy that projects well to be an enforcer, but doesn't seem to be a very cerebral player. Missed most of the 2008 season with a shoulder injury. Combined for 11 interceptions, 19 pass breakups. Also returned punts, averaging 16.8 and 10.2 respectively as sophomore and junior, but his averaged dipped to 4.4 this past year. He muffed some and didn't show great decision making in that area this year.

NFL FORECAST:

Keo is a good fit as a run-defending strong safety. He has good speed. And can contribute on special teams, although I don't think he'll be as effective returning punts. But he could be a nice option to take up those duties if the regular guy gets hurt and working there in an emergency. I just think his awareness and lack of smarts will limit how much contributions he will make initially in the league. In time, with development, he might get comfortable enough in a scheme, where he could be a fairly reliable starter. But he's the type of guy that is going to get caught out of position too often early on in his days to be trusted and may never develop enough where he isn't going to give up as many plays as he makes. Ultimately, he's a guy that I project to be a career backup that may make a decent stopgap starter for a few years down the road.

ATL FORECAST:

Keo is a similar player to William Moore, in that he can bring the wood in run support. But isn't going to be a major factor in coverage, and will give up a bunch of big plays. He can stick in Atlanta on special team and as a backup for Moore, and could be a decent injury replacement with a few years. Fans will like his toughness and physicality, but he's not to be trusted as a starter and shouldn't be considered an option as a candidate to be a long-term starter. The best you could hope for him is to be a poor man's Moore if he ever gets an opportunity.

VALUE:

Keo is a nice late round prospect that a team looking for a physical enforcer-type as a reserve could take in the sixth or seventh round. But his upside is limited and he probably won't ever be a trustworthy candidate to start. He'll help special teams and beef up a weak run support, but that's about it.

SKILLS:
1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite

SPEED: 3.0
TACKLING: 3.5
COVERAGE: 2.0
BALL SKILLS: 2.0
RANGE: 2.0
