Overview:
Chris L. Rucker is a CB with good size, but he lacks the speed to be an impact player at the next level. His footwork needs a lot of work and he will struggle man-to-man with quicker NFL receivers. However, he is a capable zone corner. He has a good burst to the ball and is also a sound tackler. In order to be successful, he must play in a zone heavy scheme, or perhaps move to FS.
Scouting Report:
Positives
- Good height and bulk - 30+ starts under his belt - Physical player - Good, strong, jam at the line - Good awareness in zone coverage - Active hands, will break up passes - Long arms - Closes quickly to make a play on the ball - Gets involved in run support - Gets off blocks well, throws receivers around - Solid tackler - Can be a good Special Teamer
Negatives
- Lack of straight line speed will hurt him - Choppy footwork - Gets too high in his back pedal - Doesn’t have the fluid hips to mirror quicker receivers - Struggles in man coverage - Doesn’t turn to locate the ball at times in man coverage - Prefers to have everything in front of him - May have to move to FS in the NFL - Arrested and suspended for drunk driving
