40: 4.70 (estimated)
Has a nice first step with good straight-line speed off the corner. Shows a nice punch and flashes potential to be a potent bull rusher. Does a decent job making the stop at the point of attack.
Doesn't have the explosive first step or bend to turn the corner. Undersized, and gets redirected when linemen can get their hands on him. Tends to lower his shoulder when taking on blocks rather than using his hands and has trouble getting off blocks.
Walker is an undersized pass rusher that has some potential to develop there, but is raw. A two-year starter at defensive end, but mixed his time playing more of a standup role as Tennessee played quite a bit 3-4 this year. Production slipped a little from 42 tackles, 8.5 for loss, and 6 sacks as a junior to 45-6-3 as a senior.
If he can bulk up to around 250 or so, then I think he might have a chance to stick as a developmental reserve at OLB in a 3-4 scheme. He flashes enough pass rush ability, particularly if he can develop his bull rush, that some team might give him a chance. But he'll only stick as a rookie if he can perform on special teams. That shouldn't be too big an obstacle. The problem is that where he has the defensive upside to last more than a couple of seasons. He needs to do a better job taking on and shedding blocks, and thus get better playing in space. As far as coverage goes, he's really untested there since he rarely was asked to do that in the games I saw.
Unless he can shine on special teams, Walker will have a tough time making the Falcons roster. His pass rush potential isn't such that the Falcons in their 4-3 scheme would be willing to overlook how limited he is vs. the run and in coverage as a linebacker. And unless he came into camp with another 15 or so pounds added to his frame, it would be doubtful if he'd get much of a look at defensive end. He would be lucky to land a practice squad position.
Walker is too limited on defense to think he merits a draft pick, but some 3-4 team should bring him into their camp as an undrafted guy.
1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite
