PROS:
Has good size and strength. Shows ability to anchor vs. the run and at the point of attack. Will occasionally get off a block and make a stop at the point of attack. Shows some mobility and range to make stops in pursuit. Has a pretty good motor.
CONS:
Lacks a good first step and won't press the pocket or consistently get leverage against the run. Gives you very little as a pass rusher. Struggles to disengage there and only gets free when working on stunts. Is negated by double teams and gets redirected too easily at the point of attack.
OVERVIEW:
Grant definitely looks the part of a two-gap nose tackle, but doesn't make enough impact plays and gets pushed around a bit too much for a player his size on the inside. He has a chance to develop there. A two-year starter that combined for 43 tackles, 10.5 for loss, and 6 sacks.
NFL FORECAST:
A 3-4 team might pick up Grant to develop as a reserve player. He is a fairly good athlete for his size, and shows the strength and bulk teams like in a developmental prospect, he just doesn't play like it on tape. But I think he has a chance to develop into a Brandon McKinney-esque reserve. He's likely to bounce around the league a bit early on before he can stick, but three or so years down the road he can be a decent No. 2 that can give a starter a rest for 10-15 snaps per game. That's probably the best you can hope for.
ATL FORECAST:
Grant is a poor fit in Atlanta because he causes very little disruption. If he had a chance as a Falcon, he would likely have to slim down to under 300 pounds to add some quickness, and even then he would be a long shot to be anything more than a No. 4 guy that barely plays on running downs a la Vance Walker.
VALUE:
Grant is too much of a developmental project to be drafted, but a 3-4 team should definitely make him a nice pickup in free agency to compete in camp.
