Central Florida Senior
40: 4.75 (estimated)
Has a quick first step and shows good straight-line speed off the edge. Shows ability to beat the guard when he lines up inside with his first step. Plays with a very high motor. Best pass rush move potentially is his bull rush because he gets good hand placement. Shows nice recognition, able to sniff out a screen and also does a good job staying at home vs. the run. Shows some ability to work in space, and is able to make tackles in pursuit. Shows some awareness when he can drop off into coverage on short zones, able to read the quarterback.
Undersized for a down lineman, and has trouble matching up with size. He can get too easily redirected. Has a short, squat build with short arms, which gives him trouble when he's trying to make tackles in the open field. Needs to take better angles. Has a tendency to run around blocks. His effectiveness goes down when he can't win battles with his first step. Doesn't have the hips to really be that effective when playing in space.
Miller is a very productive player that was UCF's top playmaker. He lines up across their line, but his natural home is as a pass rusher. He shows enough recognition to think that he can make the transition to outside linebacker in the pros. But because he's not a stellar athlete, his potential could be limited in that role. But because of his high motor and natural playmaking instinct, Miller is going to find a home at some position in the pros. A four-year starter that was productive every year. His best season came as a junior, where he had 61 tackles, 18 for loss, and 13 sacks. As a senior, he had 63 tackles, 13.5 for loss, and 8.5 sacks. For his career, he had 47.5 tackles for loss and 35.5 sacks, as well as 3 picks, 6 forced fumbles, and 42 hurries.
I think Miller can play both as an end or linebacker in the pros. As an end, he'll have to bulk up some and get stronger. He just is too undersized at this point and is going to get pushed around. But I think he can be a nice situational pass rusher if he can get up to around 270 or so and really develop his bull rush. I think in time he could be a decent starter, but a guy that probably only gives you 4-6 sacks on a consistent basis rather than anything more. His upside might be a bit higher as an OLB as a pass rusher because he won't have to make a lot of changes. He'd probably be better off slimming down to around the 245-250 pound range. He'll be limited as a linebacker since he'll never be a great run stopper or cover guy, but I think he can be good enough to get by as a starter. Sort of in the same vein as a Jarret Johnson, although probably has more potential to be a potent pass rusher if he can continue to develop his bull rush. Either way, Miller is likely going to be a complementary player at the next level, but he'll be a guy that can contribute on somebody's roster either as a situational end or an above average starter. I wouldn't expect him to make a ton of contributions right away, but three or four years down the road once he really fills out his frame and/or develops a comfort level of playing in space, he has the potential to be a nice stopgap starter.
Miller is a similar player to Kroy Biermann, and the Falcons would be better off using him as a defensive end. I'm not sure Miller is a better player than Biermann, but they are similar players that could bolster the Falcons depth and rotation. As a rookie, he could make the roster as the fourth or fifth end and beat out someone like Sidbury, with the hope that in the future he could also push someone like Davis or Anderson off the roster. But he isn't going to bring a lot more to the table that Biermann doesn't already bring.
Because Miller is a bit too much of a tweener to really like one way or the other, he probably shouldn't be taken before the fourth round. But he should be a valuable reserve and potentially push for a starting spot down the road which makes him a perfect fit in either the fourth or fifth round.
