ADAM FROMAN
6-4/220
Louisville Senior
40: 4.54

PROS:

Shows good mobility to extend the play and make things happen with his legs. Comfortable on the move and throwing on the rollout. Shows ability to move within the pocket to avoid pressure. Shows good footwork on his drops when he does work from under center. Usually makes good decisions with the ball and shows touch on his throws.

CONS:

Works mainly out of the shotgun and pistol. Tends to stare down his initial read and tends to get happy feet when you force him to go to his second, trying to flee the pocket. Will be off on some of his easier throws and doesn't wow you with his accuracy. Needs to improve his field vision. Doesn't have a big arm, and needs to really step into his throws to put something on it. Lacking on touch on the vertical throws. Might need to tweak and quicken his release and mechanics somewhat. Doesn't always set his feet, which takes something off his throws.

OVERVIEW:

Froman flashes the tools that make you think with some added development, he could make a decent NFL backup. He needs some tweaking and refinement, but nothing that doesn't make you think he can grasp and run an NFL offense. He doesn't have a big arm, and helping his mechanics might improve him there. But he'll probably never be the type of guy that is good in an offense that stressed the vertical game. He's better moving around and throwing the shorter, quicker throws. A JUCO transfer from Santa Rosa JC, he became the starter at Louisville during his junior year in the 4th game. He started the next 4 games before he went down with a shoulder injury, but then closed out the year. They went 2-5 with him as the starter, completed 60% of 185 attempts for 1354 yards, 6 TDs, and 5 INTs. Came back as a senior, starting the season before a deep thigh bruise put him down. Finished year with 8 starts, 4-4 record, completing 60.6% of 218 attempts for 1633 yards, 11 TDs, and 4 INTs.

NFL FORECAST:

Froman has tools worth developing, he just doesn't wow you with those tools. You like his toughness, athleticism, decision making, and moxy, but his arm strength, mechanics, and durability are chief concerns. If developed, I think he could become a poor man's Sage Rosenfels with less of an arm, but probably with better decision making. He's not a great candidate to come in and do much more than be a practice squad player, but if he can get comfortable in a system, he has a chance of sticking long-term as a reserve. He needs more experience, and he might be a player better suited playing in Canada or the AFL early on, and then trying his hand in the pros down the road. He has a chance to make a competent backup, but he doesn't really show the upside to be a starter, besides maybe a decent stopgap guy for a game or two.

ATL FORECAST:

Froman could push for time in Atlanta, but he's at best a practice squad guy that probably needs two or three years of holding the clipboard before he can really make an impact. Stick him on the practice squad for a year or two, and then bring him along as a No. 3, and he can add some depth. Probably not the ideal option as a No. 2 guy long-term, but if he gets comfortable in the system, he can be a decent backup.

VALUE:

Froman isn't worth drafting, but he should be a guy that some team gives a chance to in camp.
