Pros: Shows nice awareness and potential in zone coverage when working deep responsibilities. Does a nice job reading the quarterback and usually in position to make a play. Does a nice job coming up and defending the run. Wraps and shows pop as a tackler.

Cons: He's undersized and tends to tackle high. He'll miss some stops in the open field and has trouble making stop at the point of attack. At times can be late reacting to the throw when working the center field.

Overview: He's a solid free safety prospect, but his lack of size hurts his upside. This past year was the first time he had a full year as a starter and was second on team with 4 picks. He was born in Brunswick, GA.

NFL Forecast: I think he can fit well as dime safety at the next level, but I don't think he'll be good enough to stick as a starter because of his lack of size. But if he gets bigger, stronger, and even better in coverage, that possibility isn't that far off. As a starter, he'll probably never be a great, but a serviceable stopgap player. But I think he'll work best coming off the bench in dime packages.

ATL Forecast: He could add depth behind Coleman at free safety. Certainly could compete right away for the dime safety spot, but probably wouldn't win it. But he could land the job in another year or two as he polishes up his coverage skills. He'd mainly be a solid backup and special teams player for a number of years with the potential to stick as a long-term backup.

Value: Patterson adds depth and would be worth a late round pick. Anything higher than a sixth or seventh round pick would be a reach.
