Pros: Is decent in coverage and doesn't get caught out of position. Will lower the shoulder and deliver the hit in run support. Is a capable gunner on special teams.
Cons: Doesn't wrap as a tackler and doesn't make many plays in coverage.
Overview: He's an adequate free safety prospect, but lacks great upside.
NFL Forecast: Spillman's ability on special teams gives him a chance to stick on a roster. But he lacks the upside to really merit developing him as a backup. He's basically at best a fourth safety that can be a backup, but if he actually has to get on the field, your defense is in trouble. But he's not a guy that you want working the dime packages or making stops in run support. In time, he might develop enough to be adequate as a third safety, but has little to no upside as a starter.
ATL Forecast: He could push a guy like Antoine Harris off the roster, but his value to the Falcons over the long haul is really nothing more than what Harris has provided over the past two years. And Spillman probably isn't even that good.
Value: He's a guy you sign as a free agent to potentially push a bubble player off the roster, but not worth a draft pick.
