5-10/210 Central Florida
Pros: Has good size and shows he's a capable, physical tackler. Shows nice pop and does a nice job making the stop in the open field.
Cons: Lacks speed and quickness to match up in coverage. Doesn't have much range and doesn't have the ball skills to make the play in centerfield. Bites on play fakes. Will miss some stops at the point of attack in the open field as a tackler, and doesn't have the closing burst necessary on the ballcarrier.
Overview: He's a nice run-stopping safety that lacks the speed and burst to really make an impact on the next level. Led team as a senior with 82 tackles. From Marietta, GA.
NFL Forecast: He's a player that is probably better off bulking up and becoming a linebacker, although lacks upside there. But could be a nice starting linebacker on a lower level of competition. He's not bad in coverage, just his lack of speed, quickness, and burst are apparent and he's unable to make any plays in coverage. If he can stick on special teams, he could make a decent backup safety. But besides that he has limited upside.
ATL Forecast: Venson plays free safety but fits better as a strong safety at the NFL level. If he can impact on special teams he could be a decent backup in Atlanta, but he's not going to solve in depth problems.
Value: Venson is a player that you'd like to bring to camp via free agency to try and make your roster.
