Pros: Active and aggressive in run support with nice range. Has very good speed and closing burst on the ball. Plays bigger than his size merits, and shows nice pop and a willing hitter. Wraps well and can make the stop in the open field. Does a nice job keeping things in front of him with good awareness. Capable special teams player on punt coverage.
Cons: Undersized for a safety. Can be a step too late breaking on the ball. Will tackle too high at times.
Overview: Plays free safety for Troy, but began working as a corner at the Senior Bowl. If he was 20 pounds heavier, he'd be a first round pick. Limited first month of his junior year due to broken hand after missing all of previous season due to shoulder surgery. Native of Griffin, GA and will turn 25 in October.
NFL Forecast: His lack of size is the biggest negative about him. He's not great in coverage from the safety position, but is competent and shouldn't have major issues adjusting and playing there in the pros. He should make a solid free safety at the next level, and his experience at corner should help him there. He's an undersized run stopper, which will get him in trouble at times, but he's not soft by any means. He can be a solid two-way safety, although his upside is probably higher in coverage than run support. I think he can be a capable starting safety for a team.
ATL Forecast: Martin can come in and be a solid backup behind Coleman at free safety. He'd be a good candidate to potential replace him as the starter within two or so years. He definitely has more upside than Coleman in coverage, and if he can put on a bit more muscle, there wouldn't be any drop-off in run support. He'd be an active playmaker for the Falcons, just not sure he'd be a top safety. But a good one on par with an Eric Weddle.
Value: Martin has early round potential, just not early round size. Which at worst knocks him back making him a solid third round pick. But a team looking for a solid free safety prospect wouldn't be reaching too much by taking him late in the second.
