Captain Munnerlyn 5-9/182 South Carolina 4.41 Junior
Pros: Is willing in run support and will wrap, but is a drag-down tackler. Has good speed and shows some potential as a press corner despite lack of size. Does a nice job coming off the edge as a blitzer. Capable punt returner.
Cons: Undersized, and it shows when he's in run support and playing in press coverage. Struggles against the deep ball because of weak hips.
Overview: A good return threat that plays bigger than his size indicates, but still clearly undersized. Probably should have stayed another year. Has been a starter since midway through his true freshman year.
NFL Forecast: He'll have a brighter future on special teams than on defense. Could challenge for a nickel spot, but lacks upside to be a starter at the next level. If he can impact early on special teams either in coverage or on returns, he could be a solid reserve player. Probably the best you could hope for is a slightly better defender than Allen Rossum that can have a similar impact on returns.
ATL Forecast: Munnerlyn would only impact the Falcons as a return specialist. He might be able to land the No. 4 cornerback spot in a year or so, but is not the guy you want lining up in the nickel spot over the long haul. If the Falcons were inclined to try and upgrade their return units with one player, Munnerlyn might suffice.
Value: Purely as a corner, he's probably at best a sixth round value. Throw in his return abilities, and you could bump him up a round, but that's probably it.
