Joey Hudson 6-1/232 Miami OH 4.69 Senior
Pros: Shows nice instincts and tough, scrappy, and aggressive play. Is a capable tackler that can do some things in pursuit. Shows some potential in zone coverage with nice awareness. Does a nice job attacking the line of scrimmage and has potential as a blitzer. Will take on blockers and does a nice job at the point of attack.
Cons: Doesn't get off blocks and gets caught in traffic too much. Lacks pop as a tackler. Doesn't have the quickness or speed to be a major factor in coverage.
Overview: He's a hard-working player that was a productive three-year starter at middle linebacker. And while he's a capable player in the MAC, may not quite match up in the NFL.
NFL Forecast: Hudson has the disposition to be a special teams ace. He can add some depth at inside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme, but he's limited athletically. Will have trouble in coverage and lacks the speed to be a rangy playmaker. If he can impress a team with his work ethic, toughness, he can stick as a reserve. But lacks upside as a starter and will probably be a career backup. About the best you can hope for is a player like Chase Blackburn.
ATL Forecast: Hudson isn't a great fit in the 4-3, but he could stick as a backup MIKE in Atlanta. He could challenge Gilbert and potentially stick on special teams. But he lacks the ideal upside that merits development as a backup and could potentially be replaced within a year or two by a more gifted player. But if he can prove to be a strong special teams player, he could be a fixture as a backup for a long time.
Value: Hudson might be able to add some depth, but his lack of upside means he should be an undrafted free agent.
