Dave Philistin
6-1/235 Maryland
4.59 Senior

Pros: A pursuit player with nice straight-line speed and closing burst. Is active with nice range and has a good nose for the ball. Does a nice job attacking the line of scrimmage and shows some potential as an interior blitzer. Is a steady tackler.

Cons: Lacks size and is really a drag-down tackler with little pop. Struggles at the point of attack. Gets caught in traffic, doesn't get off blocks, and prefers to run around them. He's not aggressive in the hole and struggles to beat the fullback. Lacks awareness in coverage.

Overview: Philistin is at times a productive player, but has been greatly overshadowed past two years by Erin Henderson and Alex Wujciak, much better players in their 3-4 scheme. But was productive in that time, combining for 218 tackles in that span. Didn't really blossom into consistent playmaker this past year.

NFL Forecast: He has experience in the 3-4 scheme, but I don't think he projects well there. Instead, I'd probably try and develop him as a weakside linebacker in the 4-3. But even then, his upside is limited. Not a natural playmaker and is only effective in pursuit. I think he can potentially stick if he makes an impact on special teams, but lacks any real upside on defense that merits much development.

ATL Forecast: He'd be in the mix as a reserve weakside linebacker, but he'd be hard-pressed to beat a player like Robert James, who is a bit more physical a player. At best, he could be a decent special teams player in Atlanta for a year or two, but unless he becomes great in that area, he won't last that long.

Value: He's not worth drafting, but a team should bring him to camp to compete for a job on special teams.
