Matt Kroul
6-3/280 Iowa
5.02 Senior

Pros: He's a high effort player with a great motor and good strength. A capable bull rusher. Works well on stunts and has deceptive closing speed on the ball. Gets a good jump off the snap and has nice short-area quickness to get leverage vs. the run.

Cons: Lacks ideal quickness and won't be an impact pass rusher. Doesn't get off blocks that well and has trouble with double teams. Lacks size and needs to get stronger at the point of attack.

Overview: Plays a lot of a nose for Iowa, and is a very nice complement to King. Not as good as King, and makes a less impact, but is good as the "other guy" on their defense. Best season was as a senior where he had 6.5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.

NFL FOrecast: Unlike King, I don't see Kroul becoming a starter. But he could certainly be a valuable rotation player if he can get bigger and stronger vs. the run. That's where his future lies, and he probably could stand to put on some more weight to his frame, but he should be fine as is to help a team's rotation. He can help as a fourth tackle out of a rotation and backup nose guy. Could play some in the 3-4 at end as well. He could stick in the league because of his motor and work ethic, but won't be a huge contributor.

ATL Forecast: He'd help the Falcons rotation, but lacks upside to really develop as a long-term solution at nose tackle. He'd be a nice backup nose tackle, and could be a nice player if someone like Trey Lewis shows he's able to serve as the starter long-term. If the Falcons get a capable starter, he'd fit nicely as a reserve. But if they are expecting more from him that that, they won't really get it.

Value: Kroul is perhaps worth a late seventh round pick for a team looking for depth, but I'd probably try to get him via free agency.
