Josh Gaines
6-1/276 Penn State
4.90 Senior

Pros: Has a decent first step. Has a nice motor and can make plays in pursuit. Has decent strength.

Cons: Lacks the quickness to beat tackles off the edge. Not really a force against the run, and tends to be slow off the snap.

Overview: He's third in Penn State's rotation. And while he lost his starting job to Aaron Maybin this year, it's Evans that is the player he most often spells. A two-year starter (sophomore and junior years) that never had more than 2.5 sacks in a single season as a starter, yet had 4 sacks this past year as a backup. He also has 10 siblings.

NFL Forecast: Gaines might be a decent rotation option, and probably fits the mold of the traditional type of linemen that someone like Tony Dungy likes. With the Colts, they'd probably bulk him up and try him inside. Frankly, that's probably his best option to stick at the next level. He'll just be an average end because of his lack of quickness off the edge. Bulk him up, and try to make him into an interior disruptor in an attacking 4-3 scheme like they have in Indianapolis.

ATL Forecast: Gaines would be a project that may be good enough to stick on the Falcons practice squad for a year or two. But he'd probably have to be moved inside to really have a chance. He just lacks the upside to really be a long-term factor at end. In Atlanta, he could help the rotation down the road, but would have to be able to impress the coaches with his motor and toughness early on in order to stick, something that would be tough to do.

Value: Gaines isn't worth drafting, but definitely one of those guys that you bring to camp and surprises you with his hard work.
