Pros: A nice straight-line pass rusher that does a nice job in pursuit. Shows better strength and ability at the point of attack than his size would merit. Has experience playing with his hand off the ground.
Cons: Doesn't get a good jump off the snap and not going to be much of a threat at the next level. Lacks quickness and speed to really make him an ideal fit at linebacker.
Overview: He's another tweener. At times flashes potential to move to linebacker, at others seems to slow and projects better to end. Former walk-on that became a two-year starter, recording 14 combined sacks in those two years.
NFL Forecast: He won't be a starter, but could be a decent backup for a team, particularly if he can impact on special teams. He won't be much of a pass rusher, but might be a decent run stopper either at LB or DE. As an end, he definitely needs to get bigger and stronger and then maybe he can find a decent role in a rotation somewhere. But his probably better long-term value may be at linebacker. There he probably needs to slim down, but shows some ability to play as a rush linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.
ATL Forecast: For the Falcons, it's probably best if Martin stays on the line and bulk up. But he'd be hard-pressed to stick in Atlanta, since he is not going to give you much as a pass rusher, and is not likely to be any better of a run stopper than either Davis or Anderson off the bat.
Value: Don't draft him because he's too much of a project, but invite him to camp and see if he can unseat someone.
