Pros: Has good speed and first step to get around the corner. Has a nice swim move and good motor. Can make plays in pursuit and shows good closing burst in space. Has experience playing with his hand off the ground and decent in coverage. Shows good recognition and does a nice job sniffing out screens.
Cons: Gets pushed back vs. the run and doesn't get off blocks. Doesn't change direction well and is not a fluid athlete when working in space. Doesn't break down and will miss some tackles and sacks because of it.
Overview: A nice pass rusher, but a bit of a one-dimensional player. Started out at Colorado before going onto junior college before spending last three years at Hawaii. Only started for 1 year, but had 7 sacks as a backup as a junior and 9 sacks as a senior starter.
NFL Forecast: Veikune is a bit of a tweener. He has the potential to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme, but that's not what he's best in. Probably not ever going to be a great run stopper as a 4-3 end, but certainly shows enough ability where he could be a solid situational pass rusher in that scheme. Could be a starter down the road, but not sure he really will be an impact player. The type of guy that could be a nice 4-6 sack guy coming off the bench, but doubt his production increases significantly as a starter.
ATL Forecast: He'd be a nice pickup for the Falcons because he could definitely help as a situational rusher. Could come in and play nicely opposite Abraham and contribute right away. Might be able to develop down the road into a starter, but again he'd be more effective as a situational player than full-time guy. But he could have a long career as a backup with the Falcons.
Value: He's a middle round pick that should be picked in the fifth round, but wouldn't be too much of a reach as a late fourth rounder.
