Alex Derenthal 6-4/298 Temple 5.29 Senior
Pros: Is an effective center that does a nice job as a cut blocker and is capable blocking on the second level.
Cons: Needs to improve his footwork and lacks ideal mobility and athleticism to really stand out. Lacks pop off the snap and strength.
Overview: Derenthal is undersized and a marginal prospect. But could manage to impress with his work ethic. Four-year starter at center.
NFL Forecast: He'll need to improve his technique to make up for lacking strength and athleticism. More than likely, Derenthal is not going to stick in the NFL. But he might be able to impress a team well enough that they give him a shot on the practice squad. And maybe he can pole vault that into becoming a decent backup. But more than likely, he can only hope to stick for a year or two before being phased out.
ATL Forecast: He has an outside shot at being a backup here, but would be hard-pressed to unseat any of the reserve centers the Falcons already have on the roster. He's really just a camp body.
Value: Derenthal is worth bringing to camp for competition, but he's definitely not worth a draft pick.
