Pros: Has good size, strength and power. Is a nice athlete with nice, long arms. Has a good mean streak and does a good job finishing his blocks. Gets good position and shows nice pop in the ground game. Has the quickness to get out and block on the second level.
Cons: Has poor feet and needs to improve in pass protection. Can't adjust in space, and has trouble with quicker tackles. But also can be bull-rushed by guys that can match his strength. Lunges and has poor balance. Overly relies on his strength and doesn't always lock on to opponent. Not consistent or effective pulling or blocking on the second level despite his athleticism.
Overview: THomas has all the tools to be a top blocker at the next level, but is raw and inconsistent. He was a three-year starter at left guard. If he can polish up his skills in pass protection, he could be a really good player.
NFL Forecast: Thomas will work well in a man blocking scheme, and you like his physical tools. But he's a guy that needs a few years on the bench to improve his technique. He'll have trouble initially if you plug him in right away. But if he can improve his footwork and polishes up his technique, then he could be a solid blocker. Will never be a great pass protector, but can be good enough to get by. Has good starting potential, but if he doesn't improve in pass protection he'll be a liability there. He's the type of player that might not be that good for the team that drafts him, but after a few years of development and free agency becomes a better player for his second team. While his potential is high, I think he'll be another Derrick Dockery, who is too inconsistent in pass protection to be relied upon.
ATL Forecast: Thomas has upside to be a road grader inside for the Falcons, but probably isn't a great fit for the team's blocking scheme. But he could work here in Atlanta and if he can help clear running lanes, his issues in pass protection can be overlooked. But if Thomas lands here in Atlanta, he's probably going to need to sit for at least two years. But more than likely, the Falcons would be developing Thomas for another team to reap the benefits.
Value: Has upside to be taken in the earlier rounds, but is too raw and I wouldn't take before the sixth.
