Dicky Lyons, Jr.
Pros: Has decent hands and shows some potential after the catch. Has experience as a punt returner.
Cons: Lacks size. Doesn't have speed to be an impact returner in the pros. Will struggle to get separation. Lacking blocker that gives minimal effort there.
Overview: Lyons projects as a slot receiver at the next level that might be able to help somebody on special teams. His dad was a 4th round pick by the Falcons in 1969, but played 1 year with the Saints in 1970. Was suspended for the final month of the 2005 season for violating team rules, but it was already his redshirt year. Had 33 catch in 6 games this past year, but missed second half of the season with torn PCL and MCL in his right knee.
NFL Forecast: I don't see him sticking in the pros unless he can show somebody something on special teams. While he may look the part, lacks the explosiveness and toughness of a player like Tim Dwight. And I'm not aware of many successful punt returners with 4.55 speed. At this point, he really only looks like a guy that I'd want back there to field fair catches, not actually returning the ball. Really his best hope is if he shows some team he can help them in coverage.
ATL Forecast: Lyons could push for the punt returner job if the Falcons decide to get Douglas more reps on offense. But unless he proves to be a really good gunner on punt coverage, he's not going to stick in Atlanta. He's just a camp body really with limited offensive upside.
Value: Not worth a draft pick. Probably best going to Canada or the Arena Leagues.
