So with the pick of Short mean that Babs will be gone after this year or that Peters will be expendable next year when his contract is up? My Four round mock:

1. Desmond Trufant
2. Margus Hunt
3. Sean Porter
4. Joseph Fauria
*4. Christine Michael*

I would be so happy with this draft, I dont know if Hunt last that long but if Damontre Moore falls to 30 It would be tough for me to pass on him.

I think Babs is a goner regardless of what the Falcons do in this draft.

Babs next year will be at the same point that Abe was at last off-season. A player that the Falcons would probably like to keep, but only at the right price. Now if Babs plays his butt off this year, that could change things. But given that there has been a steady decline in his game the past 4 years, that trend is likely to continue. And projecting him forward, while he still should be a solid starter, like Abe he is going to be clearly a player on decline at an age that is very old for DTs.

You look around the league and DTs just don't have as long of careers as DEs can often have. John Henderson became a backup in Oakland at age 31. Babs will turn 32 in October. Richard Seymour was 32 in 2011, his last year as a full-time player in Oakland. Travis Hall got benched at age 30. Rod Coleman was 31 when he had his injury-plagued final year in the league in 2007. La'Roi Glover was 32 when Dallas got rid of him. He managed to play 3 more solid years in St. Louis. Jay Ratliff and Darnell Dockett both lost a step this past year, and they were 31.

And given how we've treated veterans nearing their end this current off-season, the odds are very, very long that Babs gets anything different...

It'll be a sad day for me.

Well Babs took his time about rushing on the scene to help?

Ya the problem with some defensive linemen as they age is the don't even start the season at 100%...... Their still nursing hips, elbows, and a range of problems that will never be back to 100%....

DLs typically don't hit their stride until their 3rd seasons (around 25 or 26), and then by the time they hit 31 or 32 they are pretty much done as productive starters, unless you're that elite caliber edge rusher like Strahan, Jason Taylor, or Abe that can be productive, albeit in a more limited role up to around 34 or 35.

So you really only have 5 or so years to take advantage of their skills, which is why it's beneficials to have a steady pipeline of guys (see Giants) for over 15 years because they use high picks:

Keith Hamilton, 4th round, 1992
Michael Strahan, 2nd round, 1993
Chad Bratzke, 5th round, 1994
Cedric Jones, 1st round, 1996
Cornelius Griffin, 2nd round, 2000
Cedric Scott, 4th round, 2001
William Joseph, 1st round, 2003
Osi Umenyiora, 2nd round, 2003
Justin Tuck, 3rd round, 2005
Mathias Kiwanuka, 1st round, 2006
Barry Cofield, 4th round, 2006
Jay Alford, 3rd round, 2007
Jason Pierre-Paul, 1st round, 2010
Linval Joseph, 2nd round, 2010
Marvin Austin, 2nd round, 2011

And occasionally dipped into FA market to make a splash:

Kenny Holmes, 2000
Fred Robbins, 2004
Chris Canty, 2009
Rocky Bernard, 2009
Cullen Jenkins, 2013

I would have to agree. If Moore falls, and we dont take him, Im going to be a little upset. :ninja:
