Shonn Greene
5-11/227 Iowa
4.55 Junior

Pros: Is a hammer as a runner that loves to run downhill and deliver blow to defender. Runs low with good balance, making him even harder to tackle. Has nice patience and some burst for his size. Is quick to and through the hole. Fights for extra yards and good after contact. A nice north-south runner that shows toughness to fight through injuries. Has good hands and decent in pass protection.

Cons: Not elusive and doesn't change direction well. Doesn't have great burst or speed to break long runs. Not going to get to the corner. There are some concerns about weight.

Overview: Greene is a very similar player to Michael Turner with a bit of Craig Heyward mixed in there. He's a powerful runner that fits nicely in the "three yards and a cloud of dust" style of offense. There were rumors that his weight ballooned up to close to 300 pounds when he sat out 2007 due to academics. Also missed three games as a sophomore due to an ankle injury. Came out early because he'll turn 24 in August.

NFL Forecast: Greene will probably not be a feature back, but will be an ideal power back in a 1-2 combo. He'll need to get better in pass protection and as a receiver to be an every down back, but he has potential to develop there. Behind a good line, he can be very productive much like Turner. But lacks the ideal burst and quickness to make something happen if his blocks don't open holes for him. But he'll do a good job of wearing down defenses because teams will hate tackling him just like they do Turner. His best value will be for a team in short yardage and goal line situations.

ATL Forecast: He's about as close to a Turner clone as you'll find, and if the Falcons were looking for someone to groom to replace Turner down the road, he'd be the best option. However, by the time he was ready to really hit the field, he'd be close to 27 years old, missing his prime. But he'd be a nice player to spell Turner in the meantime, but wouldn't be able to reach his full value until a few years down the road in Atlanta.

Value: Greene is probably a third round pick, but wouldn't be too much of a reach if a team took him late in the second.
