Penn State Senior
PROS: Left-footed and has a strong leg, able to boom punts. Doesn't outkick his coverage. Gets good hangtime on the short field and able to pin teams deep close to the goalline.
CONS: Needs to improve his hangtime. Puts too many punts in the endzone.
OVERVIEW: Boone didn't have to punt a ton at Penn State because their offense was fairly good. But he was productive during his time there, but had a lot of touchbacks. But pinned 61 of his 151 career punts inside the 20-yard line and averaged 43.1 yards.
NFL FORECAST: Boone was pretty consistent in terms of his production throughout his three-year career as the Penn State punter, which is good since it makes you assume he can continue to do those things. He is a good distance punter that flashes the potential to be a good directional kicker. His large number of touchbacks might have had something to do with poor coverage units as I saw a game where he had three or four touchbacks because his gunner didn't try to make a play on the ball, focusing on the returner. He should have a nice NFL career, and should be able to play right away, although I think he's a guy that will probably need a year or two before he can start to really hit his stride.
ATL FORECAST: Boone can be a solid punter in Atlanta, but he's not going to come in right away and beat Koenen in a fair competition. If the Falcons wanted to go young, then he can win the job. But again, he'll take a year or so to really start to hit his stride before you can start to expect him to begin to play at a high level. He can do so, but doesn't seem to have the experience or potential to be able to handle kickoffs.
VALUE: Boone is worth a draft pick, probably in the sixth or seventh round.
