Zoltan Mesko, P, Michigan

Michigan Senior

PROS: A left-footed punted that can kick for distance with a strong leg. Has the ability to pin teams deep and can get good hangtime on many of his kicks.
CONS: Some of his kicks are line drives and he'll outkick his coverage at times. Needs to be more consistent with his hangtime and showing more directional skills on the short field.
OVERVIEW: Mesko does a good job managing field position and has the strong leg that NFL teams like. He was very productive, particularly in his last two years. While having 132 total punts and averaging 43.5 yards, he only had 6 touchdowns, and downed 39 inside the 20. He was born in Romania.
NFL FORECAST: Mesko has a strong leg and should be a productive pro. He's not the most polished punter, but should be able to come in right away and compete and be a productive player. He should have a long NFL career, and as time passes should become an even more accurate kicker. He has some accuracy, just needs more consistency. He has the ability to be one of the top punters in the NFL a few years down the road.
ATL FORECAST: Mesko doesn't have much experience on kickoffs, so he's not quite as good a replacement as possible for Koenen. But he has the skills that he could come into Atlanta and be a productive player right away if the Falcons for whatever reason wanted to go young to avoid paying Koenen a big extension.
VALUE: Mesko is good enough to be drafted. Probably the highest I would go is a fifth round pick.
