East Carolina Senior
PROS: Has a good leg, able to boom some punts. Gets good hang time on many of his kicks. Flashes directional punting skills when working on the short field. Has the leg strength to drive ball inside the 10 on kickoffs.
CONS: Doesn't have great leg strength on kick offs. Doesn't coffin corner kicks. And will line drive some punts.
OVERVIEW: Dodge has a good combo of leg strength and directional kicking ability. His punt average improved each year where it maxed out at 45.8 as a senior. Showed improved accuracy as well as he progressed. Started out at Appalachian State before transferring to ECU where he walked on to the football team.
NFL FORECAST: Dodge is good enough to compete right away in the pros, although he needs some refinement. In time, he should be able to develop the directional kicking abilities to be a top punter in the pros. I think he has the upside to be a very good punter at the next level. He's an effective kickoff guy, but he's probably not good enough there to be considered a long-term option for some team at the next level.
ATL FORECAST: Dodge is good enough to push Koenen, but isn't really a threat to take his job since he's not as polished, and isn't as effective a kickoff guy as Koenen. He would be a nice insurance policy to sign by the Falcons in case of injury during the season or if the team doesn't commit long-term to Koenen within the next year. But he's a camp body, but a pretty good one.
VALUE: Dodge is a good enough punter to merit a late pick. For a team needing a punter, might take him in the sixth round.
