Larry Asante
Nebraska Senior
40: 4.63

PROS: Has a nice speed and plays physically. Quick to come up and defend the run and shows good closing burst on the ball. Willing to hit, but does a nice job wrapping up most times. Not afraid to take on blockers at the point of attack. Works well in short zones.
CONS: Is an undersized tackler and hitter that will duck his head at times. Will take some poor angles and hit wrong gaps in run support. When working in centerfield, needs to do a better job playing the ball instead of the receiver. Can get caught out of position at times when playing centerfield.
OVERVIEW: Functions much like a linebacker in Nebraska's defense as he's often responsible for making the stop when their vaunted D-line doesn't. A JUCO linebacker that was the starting strong safety for three years. Senior year he had career highs with 79 tackles, 2 picks, and 7 pass breakups.
NFL FORECAST: He's a player I like, but he's somewhat limited, particularly in coverage. I think he's smart and capable enough there that he can function as an NFL starter. But he'll likely have to play in a cover-2 scheme. I see him as a capable starter, but nothing special. He's a guy that can do a lot of things coaches ask him, and he can be used to support the run and blitz, and he'll occasionally make some plays in coverage. At the very least, because of this affinity coaches will have for him, he'll have a long NFL career even if only as a backup.
ATL FORECAST: Asante could work in Atlanta as a fallback option in case William Moore doesn't work out. He isn't going to any better in coverage than Moore and lacks his speed and range. But he's a nice insurance policy and provides good depth at strong safety. But he'd be hard-pressed to get off the bench in Atlanta unless Moore or another safety completely washed out.
VALUE: Asante is a nice fourth round pick for a team looking for a strong safety prospect.

1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite
