40: 4.85 (Campus)
PROS: Has good size and does well vs. the inside run. Is a capable tackler. Does best work when he can attack the line of scrimmage. Can be somewhat effective in short zones in coverage. Is a passionate player that shows on-field leadership.
CONS: Lacks speed and range to be a factor in pursuit outside the hashmarks. Limited in coverage because he lacks ideal athleticism there. Needs to get off blocks better and gets stuck in traffic too often.
OVERVIEW: A former JUCO player that was the team's leader in tackles the past two years as their starting middle linebacker. Combined for 187 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks.
NFL FORECAST: Dempsey is just too athletically limited to think he'll ever impact on defense. But his passion and physical style of play could fit well on special teams. He's the type of player that will be hard-pressed to stick in the league because there are players with more ability to play on regular defense that can be capable special teams players. He's more in line with the talent that bounces around NFL practice squads than guys that stick. His best chance is probably as a reserve in a 3-4 scheme because he lacks the range and speed to do much in a 4-3.
ATL FORECAST: He definitely isn't a better backup option than Gilbert in the middle, but might be as capable a special teams player. But he's more likely a camp body that would need a huge camp to even make the practice squad. And even if he did, he'd probably have just as tough a time sticking in his second year.
VALUE: He's not worth a draft pick, but somebody should bring him to compete.
