PROS: A smart, instinctive guy that has a good nose for the ball and is rarely caught out of position. Takes good angles to the ball and does a nice job filtering through traffic when he's working in pursuit. Is a tough player that isn't afraid to take on blockers and will fill holes. Does a good job at the point of attack. A good tackler that wraps up and has some pop. Has good closing burst on the ball and does a nice job running downhill.
CONS: Lacks ideal speed and range to make plays sideline to sideline. Gets caught up in the trash at times in pursuit. Lacks ideal burst and hips to match up in man coverage. Will tackle a bit high at times and not great getting off blocks when he's forced to take on linemen.
OVERVIEW: He's a smart, consistent player that his only major flaw is he doesn't have the ideal speed and burst to make plays outside the hashmarks. He isn't a good option in coverage either, but has the smarts and intelligence to believe he should be able to do well in zone coverage. Very productive player that combined for 252 tackles his final two years, his only two as a starter. Also had 11.5 tackles for loss and 6 picks. Missed time as a sophomore with mono and other injuries.
NFL FORECAST: He fits best as a TED inside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme, where his lack of range and man cover skills shouldn't be as big a limitation. He can also be a capable 4-3 middle linebacker like he was at Iowa, but he's not as rangy or versatile as most teams want at that position, so more than likely he'd spend most of his years as a reserve. He reminds me of the type of inside linebacker that Derek Smith was for the 49ers, which is a good run stuffer between the hashmarks. He'll have a long pro career, even if he never gets a chance to start regularly because teams will like his toughness and intelligence.
ATL FORECAST: Angerer really would only be a backup here in Atlanta, and while he certainly is an upgrade over Gilbert, his abilities would be fairly wasted in Atlanta unless they decided to move to a 3-4 scheme down the road. He's not good enough to challenge Lofton for his starting job, but at least would be one of the better backup MLBs in the league.
VALUE: For a 3-4 team looking for a TED linebacker, he would make a nice third or fourth round pick. A 4-3 team would probably be better off waiting until the fifth round or later.

1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite

SPEED: 2.5
