PROS: Has good strength and power in his short frame. He plays hard and shows good toughness as a defender. Is good in pursuit, a capable tackler that shows pop as a hitter. Has decent closing burst on the ball. Does a good job attacking upfield, taking out blockers and freeing up his teammates.
CONS: Lacks ideal burst, athleticism and speed. Can be overmatched in man coverage because he has poor hips. Overpursues and doesn't take great angles in pursuit. Lacks the straight-line burst to be a significant factor as a blitzer off the edge.
OVERVIEW: He is a tough, hard-nosed player, but lacks the burst and speed to play outside on the next level. His blonde dread locks and extensive face paint make him easy to spot on the field.
NFL FORECAST: I think Woods would fit well inside in a 3-4 scheme where he plays the TED position which is basically designed to take on blockers and free up the MIKE. He could also play in the middle in the 4-3, but lacks the upside to be a starter. If he's ever going to be a starter, I think it'll be inside in the 3-4. He's not good in man coverage, but shows some ability in zone coverage, so he can be an every down player down the road. More than likely however, he'll be a backup and will be known mostly for his special teams contributions. If he plays with the same fire there that he does on defense, he'll have a very long career on special teams. Basically he's a career backup, but coaches will like his toughness despite the fact that he's fairly limited on defense.
ATL FORECAST: Woods could be a nice depth option in Atlanta behind Lofton. Like Lofton, he'll be a bit overmatched in coverage, but he could be a nice addition mainly for what he can bring on special teams. He really wouldn't be an upgrade over Tony Gilbert, but just because he's younger and plays with a bit more attitude, could wind up beating him for a job.
VALUE: Woods is just a backup and thus a late round pick. He might be worth a fifth round pick for a 3-4 team looking for an inside 'backer. Otherwise, he's probably seventh round material since his special teams value is his greatest asset.
