40: 5.35 (Campus)
PROS: Does a nice job getting upfield to get leverage when he lines up over the center. Has a good motor and willing to give chase. Shows decent straight-line burst when he's working on the stunt.
CONS: Lacks quickness to really be a factor and penetrate. Doesn't seem to show a lot of moves and can't beat blocker or disengage. Isn't much of a factor in pursuit. Can be pulled offside trying to jump the snap.
OVERVIEW: Flashes some ability as a nose tackle with his ability to get leverage vs. the run, but limited. He split time with Marlon Favorite for two years at nose tackle before inheriting the job fully this past year. Was marred early on by injuries in his career, missing most of the 2005 and 2007 seasons with foot, ankle, and knee injuries. Best year cam in 2006 where he had 28 tackles, 3 for loss, and 2.5 sacks.
NFL FORECAST: Injuries dampened a promising career for Alexander, as he came in with Glenn Dorsey. He's a similar player to Marlon Favorite, except I'm not sure he's quite as good. He gets by mainly off his size and his effort, but doesn't do anything well enough where you like his chances of sticking at the next level. He's good enough to make a practice squad, but I think he's at best a No. 4 defensive tackle in a 4-3 rotation. If he could bulk up some more, he might stand a chance of being a better two-gap nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme. But he's not going to impact early in either scheme. And will probably have to spend at least two years on a team's practice squad before they can ask for any real contributions, and even then it's only as an average backup.
ATL FORECAST: He'd be a nice body to have in camp to push for playing time, but he's not going to be a factor in Atlanta. They might try to bulk him up some and stash him on the practice squad for a year, but again, he offers limited upside to think he could stick in Atlanta long-term.
VALUE: Alexander should be an undrafted option that should get a look in camp.
